The new raft ride project currently under construction at Quassy Amusement & Waterpark has been named ‘Category 5 Rapids – Extreme Waterslides’.

Discussing the latest addition to Splash Away Bay, which is adjacent to the iconic East Coast amusement park, Quassy said the three new Category 5 raft rides will have a combined length of more than 1,000ft.

“These are massive slides with each one providing a different experience,” said park president, Eric Anderson. “They incorporate some of the newest and most exciting technology in our industry.”

The design-and-build contract was handed to ProSlide Technology, and construction of the project – which includes a large TantrumTwist slide and two PipeLine serpentine slides – started in September.

“We considered a number of names put on the table and Category 5 really was the best fit, as it relates to extreme river rapids rafting,” said Anderson.

“While other elements in Splash Away Bay waterpark are certainly fun and exciting, these three new raft rides will take the experience to another level.”

According to Anderson, work is progressing as projected and the new attractions are scheduled to open with the rest of the waterpark on Memorial Day weekend next year.
