As well as Peppa Pig Land, Italian’s leading amusement park is planning another new attraction for 2018. Following a high tech reboot, the classic I Corsari dark boat ride will remerge in a few months’ time as The Corsairs: The revenge of the ghost.

Originally opened back in 1992, the attraction was one of the most elaborate in an Italian park at the time. Over 30 domestic and American companies worked on the project, which cost 60 billion liras.

For the upcoming season, Gardaland has decided to treat the attraction to a brand new storyline and effects including the use of 3D video mapping. Guests will undertake a journey across stormy seas, chased by the vessel of the ghost of Corsairs. The ghost’s voice will accompany them all the way on a journey full of surprises, secrets and mysteries.

Passengers will see spectral creatures, eerie villages and abandoned galleons. In this supernatural atmosphere, the rider will experience a terrible assault and a battle among swamps and gigantic snakes, storms and cannonballs. An escape through a tunnel will provide a “happy ending” to this extraordinary, Caribbean adventure.

The high quality projected imagery will be made possible by solid state LED technology. Over 100 speakers placed along the ride’s course will add to the multisensory nature of the attraction. The new cinematographic-style soundtrack will be completely original.

Providing the voice of the ghost is actor-dubber Pietro Ubaldi, a proven veteran of sea adventures having been the Italian voice of Captain Redbeard in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, itself inspired by a classic dark ride.
