The U.S. nationally-renowned art collective Meow Wolf has announced it is to open yet another new location, this time in Washington D.C.

Meow Wolf are creators of immersive and interactive experiences designed to transport audiences of all ages to fantastical new realms.

The new Meow Wolf attraction will be set in a 75,000 sq. ft. three-storey structure in Fort Totten in north east Washington D.C. The site is due to open in 2022 and will offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy a unique, interactive experience.

Meow Wolf’s CEO, Vince Kadlubek commented:

“Washington D.C. is an international cultural powerhouse and an ideal setting for the evolving Meow Wolf story universe that began with House of Eternal Return. Our intergalactic, transmedia story is rooted in a community of underdogs who overcome ‘The Powers That Be’, and we will have something really special for all the fellow underdogs who seek a transformative experience when we unveil the D.C. chapter.”

The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, a group committed to building a strong community for the residents of the Washington D.C. area through support of art, humanities and other community-based programs, is backing Meow Wolf’s plans to set up in the United States’ capital.

“One of the chief reasons we committed to Washington, D.C. is the quality of our partnership with the Cafritz Foundation. We are very honored to work with this world-class developer and foundation in a project that will focus so strongly on positive community impact,” said Vince Kadlubek.

Jane Cafritz of the Foundation shares Meow Wolf’s enthusiasm for the art collective’s arrival in Washington D.C.

“Meow Wolf has grown beyond the innovative DIY art collective to a nationally renowned, immersive art experience. This opportunity will be an important addition to Washington D.C. and the Northeast D.C. As a team that has been involved in the arts for decades, we are thrilled to see that the future of the art experience will be coming to the Nation’s capital,” said Jane Cafritz.

Meow Wolf boasts a fascinating and inspiring story, starting out as a group of artists who came together to make art. Now hailed as a “creative powerhouse”, Meow Wolf has over 300 employees, all creating and supporting art across various forms of media, including painting, sculpture, architecture, performance, and more.

Since the art collective set up its first permanent collection, the THEA Award-winning House of Eternal Return in 2016 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Meow Wolf has gone from strength to strength, installing wildly imaginative art space filled by technology and fantastic environments in different locations.

A new Meow Wolf site is due to open in Las Vegas this year, as well as a dark ride project at the Elitch Gardens Amusement Park in Colorado in April 2019.

Known as the Kaleidoscape, Meow Wolf’s new ride in Elitch Gardens is a never-seen-before attraction, which takes visitors on an immersive, artist-driven, fascinating journey.
