China Aerospace International Holdings, a listed arm of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, has presented plans to develop a space theme park at its launch site in Wenchang, Hainan Province.

The CNY16bn ($2.3bn) project, which will become the first of its kind in China, will cover a total area of about 407ha. It will include an aerospace theme park zone, a space plant zone and a residential zone.

The Wenchang Satellite Launch Centre park will also contain themed areas covering the Earth, the Sun, the Moon and Mars, while guests will be able to watch the launch of satellites and other space-bound technology at the site.

CASIL president Zhao Liqiang said the theme park could serve at least two million tourists a year, and that each launch could attract more than 150,000 visitors.
