The latest addition to the Zamperla thrill ride product line was recently introduced in the shape of the spectacular Air Race ride.

Delivering an exciting ride experience combined with an impressive visual impact, Air Race takes riders on a journey which replicates the experiences and sensations of an acrobatic aeroplane flight, with banks, loops, dives and weightlessness that will test even the most experienced thrill seekers.

Accommodating up to 24 riders at one time in six, four-seater aeroplanes, the new thriller combines an 8.5rpm central ride rotation motion with a motor driven arm rotation that allows for the various movements experienced by riders.

The action takes place up to 8m above the ground and ‘pilots’ experience accelerations of 3G, right side up and upside down.

As with all Zamperla rides, safety is a key aspect of the Air Race and Class 5 over-the-shoulder restraints incorporated into the seats allow riders from 120cm (48 inches) to participate in what is an amazing ‘flying’ experience.

Several ride cycles have been developed to allow operators to adapt the ride to different target audiences and to attain the theoretical hourly capacity of 480 riders.

At present two versions of Air Race are on offer – a deluxe themed model that brings to mind the excitement of real-life air race competitions, and a standard model. Custom theming can also be provided depending on the client’s requirements.

The first Air Race, installed at Coney Island Luna Park in the US, has been dedicated to the memory of Zamperla engineer Gianbattista Zambelli (1958-2010), who created many of the company’s most innovative rides.
