Alterface, creators of end-to-end interactive mixed-media attractions for dark rides, has presented the world’s first Erratic Ride, bringing its exclusive Popcorn Revenge IP to the Walibi Belgium theme park.

Hailed as a “ground-breaking attraction,” the Popcorn Revenge Erratic Ride is the first attraction in a new family of rides known as creating “visitor-centric” experiences.

In-keeping with many of Alterface’s signature rides, the Erratic Ride includes video mapping, numerous projection techniques, 3D shooting and special effects.

Bringing in a ‘choreography’ element, the Erratic Ride transforms transitions between scenes into fun, engaging experiences.

The attraction is compact, taking up a mere 400 square metres. Though larger parks may require the XXL version of the ride.

Benoit Cornet, CEO and founder of Alterface, describes the inspiration behind the Erratic Ride.

“Non-linear ride considerations have been on our mind for a long time, but this particular concept came to life as we were disappointed with existing platform-based solutions. It was time for a higher capacity yet compact ride.

“The traditional ‘turntable’ system was weak on gameplay with problematic transitions and movements. So we combined our powerful Salto show control engine with interactive technology and trackless vehicles, resulting in a totally new concept,” said Cornet.

The Popcorn Revenge attraction is part of Walibi Belgium’s new Karma World, which, with a stylish, tasteful décor, is centre on the Bollywood movie industry.

Popcorn Revenge is designed for the whole family to play together and have fun, without having to be a trained or experienced gamer.

As the ride is located indoors, it’s an attractive option for guests visiting the theme park when the Dutch weather isn’t too desirable.

Jean-Christophe Parent, managing director of Walibi Belgium, commented:

“Our request to Alterface was to create an exciting cinema world with an innovative touch in terms of ride experience. They have met and even exceeded these expectations — there is currently no such attraction on the market in any other park.

“The Popcorn expressions and gags are universal and appeal to all ages, with unsurpassed image rendering and projection quality! The new Erratic Ride obviously involved some technical challenges, but we managed to get it all right and work smoothly together with Alterface teams and expert partners. Seeing the unique jewel that we produced, we can now celebrate and enjoy it!”
