Alton Towers is to take on a new identity this autumn when it becomes the venue of a 10k race and half marathon.

On Sunday, November 14, 2021, the Staffordshire theme park will be closed to visitors, open exclusively to runners, race organisers and spectators.

Replacing the typical roar of the rides as they thunder overhead accompanied by a chorus of screams, will be the sound of runners pounding the ground as they race through the 910-acre theme park and its ten themed areas.

Race organisers RunThrough has confirmed that the route will cover “almost all areas of the resort.” Half marathon runners will complete the 10k loop twice.

All finishers of the races will be able to use the theme park rides free of charge and without having to wait in Alton Towers’ notoriously long queues. Runners will also receive a themed medal, RunThrough T-shirt, and goody bag.

Early bird entry to the races costs £38 for the 10k and £40 for the half marathon.
