Speaking to the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, BBC children’s controller Richard Deverell said he is looking into launching a theme park inspired by programmes such as In The Night Garden and Teletubbies.

Although the park is likely to be a massive draw for children and their parents, critics have accused the BBC of straying into areas that have nothing to do with its core remit of public service broadcasting.

"I think it is a bit rich for the licence fee-payer to supposedly pay up the money from high quality public service broadcasting to in effect underwrite attempts by the BBC to start competing with Alton Towers," said Conservative MP Philip Davies.
