Construction of the UK’s first ever double launch roller coaster is now underway at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The first phase of development for the new £16m ($20m) roller coaster will see foundations laid for the ride’s launch structure.

Reaching a height of 88.5ft, ‘Construction 2018’ – as the ride is currently known – will interact with five other Blackpool Pleasure Beach rides, including the Big One, Steeplechase, Big Dipper, Pleasure Beach Express and the Grand Prix.

A double launch will propel guests forward at high speed – not only at the start of the ride, but also at a second point halfway through the two-and-a-half-minute experience.

“Construction 2018 follows in the long tradition we have at Blackpool Pleasure Beach of investing in innovative rides,” said Amanda Thompson, managing director of the iconic coastal resort.

“We believe it is an invaluable investment, not only for Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but for the region as a whole, as we expect thrill seekers to flock to the park to experience this cutting-edge UK ride first.”

The ride, which is being manufactured by Mack Rides of Germany, is due to open in spring 2018.
