The newly-expanded Carolina Harbor Waterpark at Carowinds debuted to the public on May 21, bringing 27 acres of family-friendly fun to North Carolina.

Recognised as one of the 10 best waterparks to visit in 2016 by Fodor’s Travel magazine, operator Cedar Fair Entertainment Company has more than doubled the size of the aquatic facility, which was previously named Boomerang Bay.

The renovated waterpark features more than 20 attractions, both old and new, along with a fresh coastal theme. Elements include the six-storey waterslide complex, Blackbeard’s Revenge; a two-acre family area; and Seaside Splashworks, a multi-level play structure with over 80 play elements and a giant 423-gallon tipping bucket that soaks everything in its path.

Guests to Carolina Harbor can also catch some waves in the new 27,000sq.ft wave pool, Surf Club Harbor. The waterpark also includes more than 2,000 new lounge and poolside chairs, and the all-new Harbor House restaurant.

Located in Charlotte, Carowinds first opened its doors in 1973, and since that time it has grown to become one of the leading leisure facilities in the eastern US. The park was acquired by Cedar Fair in 2006.
