A new character is meandering around Universal Orlando – the loveable Earl the Squirrel.

Earl made his debut at the theme park on December 11. The walk-around character is six foot tall and wears a festive sweater that adorns the words ‘I love acorns.’

The original character is inspired by a real-life story involving a mischievous squirrel who has been part of the theme park’s identity and history for a number of years.

Over a decade ago, the entertainment team at Universal Orlando discovered a squirrel had made a nest in the branches of the Christmas tree.

The squirrel took a shine to blue lights and would steal them and take them back to the nest.

The saga has lived on at the theme park over the years, and a decorative squirrel would be placed inside the Christmas tree for visitors to find. Merchandise focused on the mischievous creature has been available at the park for a number of years.

Earl the Squirrel is available to meet and greet guests over the Christmas period until January 2, 2022.
