The raft ride formerly known as Mystery River has reopened with a new look at Movie Park Germany in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Excalibur – Secrets of the Dark Forest welcomed its first park riders on May 7 after more than a year of planning and several months of (re)construction. As of now, the adventure of Magician Merlin, King Arthur and the legendary sword Excalibur awaits Movie Park visitors.

“We have really put the pedal to the metal to present Excalibur to our guests before the May holidays”, says the park’s general manager, Thorsten Backhaus. “All those frosty days didn’t make it easy for us, but now the time has finally come.”

The raft ride is one of the oldest and most popular attractions at Movie Park Germany, as well as one of the longest water rides of its kind in Europe. Before its time as Mystery River, when the park traded as Warner Bros Movie World, the ride was known as The Neverending Story. As Excalibur, it features 12 new scenes, almost 400 fresh props, 15 new special effects/projections and 25 new music files. Contractors included Leisure Expert Group and Tema Design – MK Illumination.

“The attraction’s characteristics have stayed the same, but we have rewritten the story surrounding the ride,” concludes Backhaus. “I’m sure we’ll be able to inspire all the generations with this exciting world of knights and magical beings.”
