The building of a new land at Shanghai Disneyland has reached a new milestone. The first column has been erected of the new Zootopia-themed land.

In-keeping with a Disney tradition, prior to being installed, the steel column was signed by representatives and leaders from Shanghai Disney Resort, the Shanghai Shendi Group, the Administrative Commission of Shanghai International Resort, and Walt Disney Imagineering.

Construction of the Zootopia-themed land began in December 2019. Earlier this year, the piling work was completed, which will strengthen the foundations of the buildings that will line Zootopia Land’s streets.

The new land will be the eighth themed-land at Shanghai Disneyland and the first ever Zootopia-themed land at a Disney park. Guests will be immersed in the world of Zootopia, where storytelling will meet state-of-the-art technology to bring much-loved Zootopia characters to life.

Talking about the installation of the first steel column, Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said: “Today’s Zootopia construction milestone brings us another step closer to the beloved Zootopia story and characters coming to life in Shanghai.

“We are always looking for new ways to delight and entertain our guests here in Shanghai with unique Disney storytelling and magical experiences. This steel column installed today is an integral part of our new land which is sure to offer incredible adventures to our guests for years to come. We have every confidence in our continued success, and we are looking forward to creating even more excitement and bringing many more unique Disney stories to our guests,” Schott continued.
