Texas businessmen Keith Dalton, Terry Hlavinka and Ray DeLaughter have broken ground on what will become the Greater Houston Area's latest leisure venue.

Typhoon Texas, a new waterpark in the city of Katy, is being constructed as part of a 43-acre development, and is set to put the region on the national map for family waterpark entertainment.

The waterpark will offer some of the best new rides and attractions available in the industry, including a new interactive game called Slide Boarding, which combines the waterslide experience with gaming.

The park will also utilise advanced filtration technology and high turnover rates to provide the cleanest water of any park currently operating in the US, the developers stated.

Typhoon Texas has been in the planning stage for almost three years, and the waterpark is now set to open in May 2016.

"Due to investor support, we are well-capitalised and financed by Texas Capital Bank," DeLaughter said. "With KDW as the general contractor, we expect no issues meeting our target opening date."
