Legoland in California celebrated its 20th birthday this month. On March 21, the family theme park in Carlsbad, CA celebrated an historical day, with a special opening ceremony.

Iconic Lego characters, entertainers, stilt walkers, and an unmissable, one-of-a-kind, 10-foot high Lego birthday cake filled the park, much to the delight of guests attending the 20th anniversary opening ceremony.

The cake was made from more than 100,000 Lego bricks and showcased the park’s most thrilling and legendary rides and attractions, including the Lego Deep City Sea Adventure submarine ride, the park’s newest attraction.

Legoland California was the first Legoland to open in the United States, which opened its doors to the public for the first time in 1999, with a Miniland USA and just 12 rides.

The family favourite destination rapidly grew in popularity, prestige and size, and now boasts more than 60 rides, shows and attractions, a two-storey aquarium, a 10-acre waterpark and two interactive Lego-themed hotels.

On its birthday, Legoland California handed out free Minifigure hands to the first 1,000 children that entered the park.

This season promises to be more exciting than ever at Legoland California, with a series of new shows taking place daily, including a new interactive Birthday Dance Party and a Lego Friends birthday show, which encourage the whole family to dance and singalong.

To mark its 20th year, Legoland California is offering free admission for children aged 12 and under all season long.
