Following three years of extensive re-theming after closure in 2016 due to essential repairs, Heide Park in Soltau, Germany, recently re-opened ‘Colossos,’ the highest and fastest wooden coaster in Europe.

MK Themed Attractions, a leading supplier in the attractions industry, was involved in the theming of the revamped ride.

The updated theme is inspired by a story involving a tree monster which was trapped beneath the old Colossos many years ago. The tree monster however has broken free and has taken over the ride.

A number of special effects, including lighting, audio and fire effects, were used to help bring the new storyline to life.

The re-theming project, including investment in the new storyline, the re-theming, and the repairs of the tracks, came to an estimated EUR 12 million.

Lars Nielsen, themed attraction specialist at MK Themed Attractions, spoke about the revamped Colossos attraction and the ride’s focal point, the train station.

“This has been a fantastic project. We had to create burning, pulsing liana vines for the ride’s train station, where we worked closely with Heide Park and Merlin Magic Making to make sure that the end result met – and perhaps even exceeded – expectations.”

MK Themed Attractions has been involved in the theming of other attractions at Heide Park, including producing two parade wagons for the Merlin-owned amusement park.

“We value our previous work with MK Themed attractions and the amazing end-result for our re-theme of ‘Colossos’ guarantees that we’ll be collaborating on additional projects with them in the future,” Torsten Berwald, project manager at Heide Park, commented.
