Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has been given the green light to open and operate a new waterpark in the town of Oaxtepec, Mexico.

After having its bid accepted by the country’s National Social Security Entity, the group said is was aiming to open the Hurricane Harbor-branded waterpark early next year.

The facility will be developed on the site of a former waterpark in Oaxtepec, which is located approximately 40km south of Mexico City.

Six Flags said it was planning a multi-million dollar investment in the 67-acre property, including the addition of exciting new waterslides, rides and attractions along with several new culinary and retail locations.

“Our theme park in Mexico City is one of our fastest growing and most beloved parks, and we look forward to offering guests thrilling Six Flags memories at the new Hurricane Harbor Oaxtepec waterpark for years to come,” said John Odum, president of Six Flags’ development division.

The group currently operates 18 parks across the US, Mexico and Canada.
