Iger’s previous contract was due to expire in September 2010, but the extension now sees his tenure run till at least January 2013.

"Bob is a talented and visionary leader, under whom Disney has posted increases in growth and profitability that have consistently exceeded expectations," said Disney’s chairman of the board of directors, John Pepper, Jnr.

"We are confident he will continue to lead this extraordinary company and talented management team to new levels of creative and business success."

In the two financial years Iger has held the post, Disney has posted record revenues, with revenue for fiscal 2007 rising five per cent to US$35.3bn.
