The Shanghai Disney Resort Management Company has announced plans that will improve the overall energy efficiency of the planned China resort by three times.

The resort's heating, cooling and compressed air will be supplied by a Combined Cooling and Heating Plant (CCHP), a grid-tied, gas-fired power plant that co-generates cooling and heating via engine waste heat, and produces compressed air by self-generated electricity.

Mike Crawford, general manager of Shanghai Disney, said: "Shanghai Disney Resort has been devoted to seeking new technology and business solutions which reduce our impact on environment, save resources, and promote sustainable technology, and to support all kinds of co-operation with our local partners.

"The CCHP project is an excellent example of partnership, localisation and Disney's long-term commitment to environment protection. We are excited to be creating a world-class destination here in Shanghai to showcase environment friendly and leading Chinese and international technologies."

The CCHP will be built and operated by the Shanghai International Tourism and Resort Zone New Energy Company, a joint venture company owned by Huadian New Energy Development Company, Shanghai Shendi Company and Shanghai Yiliu Energy Group Company.
