A 10ft (3m) Lego model of Legoland New York was unveiled to media representatives and VIPs during a recent press conference for the upcoming theme park.

At the event on August 16, the assembled guests were told that the new park/resort will feature eight themed lands. And as can be seen in the photo here, the park will also have a different look to other Legolands around the world thanks to the topography of the site in Goshen, New York. For example, several lands will be located on a different level to the others.

Legoland New York Resort, which is set to open in spring 2020, will be the largest Legoland park to date. The ninth Legoland worldwide, it will be the third park in the United States, joining Legoland California and Florida. Operator Merlin Entertainments also runs 11 indoor Legoland Discovery Center attractions across the States.

“For those who may only be familiar with our Legoland Discovery Centers, a Legoland park is on a different scale altogether,” said Legoland New York public relations manager Matt Besterman at the press conference. “This 150-acre theme park is a multi-day experience with more than 50 rides, shows and attractions – all designed for kids ages 2 to 12 and their families.”

The park’s site in Goshen, where Merlin has a potential 500 acres to develop, is located 60 miles northwest of New York City. The eight themed lands will be as follows:

• The Factory. The beginning of the Legoland experience, featuring the Great Lego Adventure. Exclusive to the New York park, this ride will let guests feel what it’s like to be a Lego Minifigure as they travel through the manufacturing process, are put inside a box and into the hands of a child just waiting to build.

• Bricktopia. Here guests can work with Master Model Builders to build and test their own Lego creations and see if their tallest Lego tower can stand up against the Earthquake Table.

• Lego Ninjago World. A place where aspiring ninjas can master the ancient art of Spinjitzu. Featuring Ninjago: The Ride, the popular interactive dark ride where passengers help defeat the Great Devourer using just their hands as weapons.

• Heartlake City. The home of the Lego Friends, this land will feature an outdoor stage, a balloon ride over Pinefall Woods and the chance to sample some delicious Granny’s Apple Fries.

• Knights’ Kingdom. In this land of knights, princesses, wizards and dragons, visitors will find the Dragon Coaster, while younger knights can help a new flock of baby dragons learn to fly at Dragon Rider School.

• Lego City. Here Legoland guests can learn to be a Lego City firefighter and help save the day at the Rescue Academy, or attend Lego Driving School and get their official Legoland driver’s license. Restaurants, shops and a theatre will also be featured.

• Pirate Shores. Young buccaneers can find adventure as they climb aboard a galleon or take a trip on the Rogue Wave Riders and do battle with water spouts and hungry beasts.

• Miniland. The heart of every Legoland park, a massive panorama of Lego landscapes from across the country. At Legoland New York, this will include the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and bustling streets full of animated pedestrians.

“Legoland New York has been in the works for years and we’re excited to bring this unique family theme park to Goshen!” exclaimed Merlin’s head of public relations for North America, Julie Estrada.

“Legoland New York Resort is the first major theme park in decades to be built in the northeast – aiming to be the ultimate family destination for visitors from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and beyond.”

From the outset, the resort will feature a Legoland Hotel, which will be open year-round. Each of the Hotel’s 250 rooms will be themed to various Lego themes.

Legoland New York Resort is expected to generate 1,300 jobs by opening day, including 500 year-round full-time employees, 300 part-time employees, and 500 seasonal staff. In addition, the project is expected to generate 800 construction jobs in its development.

To reach the park, ShortLine Coach USA plans to provide a one-seat ride from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. The resort also expects to welcome international visitors via nearby New York Stewart International Airport.
