The Museum of London, which has been located at the London Wall for 45 years, is on the move to a new site in 2025.

The overall investment of the new museum will cost £337 million and sees a relocation to the West Smithfield area and rebranded as The London Museum.

The museum will receive a splendid send-off with various events, activities and displays announced for this summer as the museum is set to bow out on a high later this year.

The relocation will see many benefits with state-of-the-art facilities and bigger areas to display its exhibits. It is hoped the upgrade will ultimately exploit the rich history and culture which London encapsulates.

On discussing the move, Sharon Ament, Director of Museum of London said: “London has been slap-bang in the middle of it all, of culture, of trade and of ideas, for hundreds of years so it feels right that we’re relocating the Museum of London to Smithfield Market – in the historic heart of the capital.

“This will be more than a museum, it will tell the story of all Londoners – past, present and future; it will be a new civic space for millions of visitors to enjoy, 24 hours a day, and it will be a living, breathing building that buzzes with the energy of Londoners.

“This summer, we’ll be honouring our great past and celebrating London life before looking forward to being reborn as The London Museum.”
