Developers have proposed a project which includes about 45 rides and attractions, a waterpark, man-made lake, 15 hotels, 12,000-seat amphitheatre, restaurants and nightclubs.

The area is surrounded by wetlands, one of the major stumbling blocks for an earlier proposal for the site, to build the Scripps Research Institute, which was blocked following environmental concerns.

The project, dubbed South Florida’s Entertainment City, would provide an alternative to the centrally-located theme parks popular with locals and tourists.
