New life for New Orleans park?
The Southern Star Amusement Group has submitted plans to the city’s recovery czar, Edward Blakely, to redevelop the site but neither own nor operate it.
Among the proposals are a US$7m waterpark, which would open for the 2009 season and be part of a five-phase $20m development, as well as 60 rides and attractions, up from the 32 running when the park closed. Five new entertainment areas and a recreational vehicle park would also be added.
The park has remained shut since 2005 following the damage wrought by Hurricane Katrina.
