Martin County Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart, Florida is to undergo a $5million upgrade. The expansion of the aquatic centre will comprise of new slide rides and potentially a flowride pool that creates its own waves.

Plans to expand Sailfish Splash began in 2015. The project is believed to be costing an estimated $5million and will include the construction of a 40-foot tower, which can support up to four slides.

Kevin Abbate, director of parks and recreation at Martin County said the objective of the expansion is to maintain attendance at the waterpark.

“It’s the same thing any theme park does. They are always adding things or trying to make things different for different experiences.

“It took longer for us to get to where we are today funding-wise, because the priority for the community was to maintain and improve what we have,” said Abbate.

Sailfish Splash Waterpark currently comprises of a 7,326 square-foot water playground, two four-storey waterslides, a 1,000-foot lazy river, a 50-metre competitive swimming pool, 700 lounge and deckchairs, a picnic area, a gift shop and private cabanas.

The expansion is to include the development of the park’s seating area with the introduction of more cabanas.

Visitors can expect to enjoy the new additions to the park from 2021.
