Sweet! Plopsaland goes back to its roots

Listen to this article

Plopsaland De Panne is to become Meli Park (Honey Park) again for four days only. The Belgian theme park will go back to its roots over the weekends of September 1&2 and 8&9.

There to celebrate will be members of the Florizoone family, the founders of Meli Park, which was sold to operator Studio 100 in 1999, reopening as Plopsaland the following season.

“After 18 years we think it’s high time to bring the nostalgic feelings back to the park,” says Plopsa Group CEO, Steve Van den Kerkhof. “We want to immerse fans in the atmosphere of the former Meli Park by introducing recognisable old music and authentic attributes again in De Panne.”

This will include the revival of the old Meli Park bee mascot (seen above together with Studio 100’s own Maya the bee) and parrot show. Guests will also be able to enjoy a nostalgic rollercoaster ride through the world of bees.

Since taking over the park, Studio 100 has successfully used it as a platform to nurture its brands and intellectual property including kid-friendly TV stars such as Kabouter Plop, Samson & Gert, Wickie the Viking and many more. It has also bought and developed other parks in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany using the Plopsa brand.
