Following a £30m redevelopment, Nottingham Castle has opened new Robin Hood themed attractions.

The tourist site has been closed for three years while it underwent a huge redevelopment, with new galleries, a new visitor centre and an adventure playground known as Hood’s Hideout.

The outdoor playground is located in the castle’s former moat. It comprises of slides, tunnels, rope bridges and more, designed to mimic Robin Hood’s hideout in Sherwood Forest.

Another new attraction is the immersive, family-friendly Robin Hood Adventures, which transports guests to Sherwood Forest during the Middle Ages.

Other attractions include mixed reality gaming arches and digital tabletop games. Inside the Rebellion Gallery, visitors can become acquainted with the much-loved characters, bad and good, from the Robin Hood fable.

Temporary exhibitions in the castle include art activities for guests to immerse themselves in.

Sara Blair-Manning, chief executive of Nottingham Castle Trust, said: “The opening day has finally arrived and our whole team is delighted that we can welcome visitors to the grounds and Ducal Palace. It’s been amazing to see the castle buzzing with life.”
