The German theme park Belantis has been acquired by Parques Reunidos, giving the Spanish-based group its second major property in the country.
Belantis, which started life as Event Park, is located in the city of Leipzig and situated about 450km east of Movie Park Germany, which joined the Parques Reunidos family in 2010. The recent acquisition also includes 27 hectares of nearby land for expansion.
The park boasts eight themed areas with 70 attractions including four rollercoasters (all by Gerstlauer), 13 restaurants and two souvenir shops. During the season it also hosts various parties, music events and firework displays. Whilst Movie Park targets German and Dutch guests, Belantis is easily accessible to visitors from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. Leipzig itself has a population of 600,000. The cities of Dresden, Berlin and Prague are also within its catchment area.
Parques Reunidos believes there is potential to create a new flagship park in Germany with this, its 61st asset. The company plans to drive performance improvements in the coming years by bringing in best management practices to improve operations and widen the park’s offering.
“We have attractive investments projects for Belantis,” says Parques Reunidos CEO, Fernando Eiroa. “Parques Reunidos has a strong track record in both company acquisitions and operational improvements of acquired targets, with 19 transactions successfully completed across 10 countries since 2004.”
