After revealing its plans for a Lionsgate branded indoor entertainment centre in New York City, Parques Reunidos has confirmed it is to open a second outlet in Madrid.

Lionsgate Entertainment City is expected to debut in early 2020, the year after the launch of the concept in New York. Whereas the US attraction will be located at Times Square, the entertainment centre in the Spanish capital is to be housed inside the ‘iconic’ Estación Príncipe Pío metro station.

The facility will be targeted at young adults and adults. It will feature multiple attractions including a challenge course and climbing wall, state-of-the-art motion simulator, 4D theatre and location-based VR experiences. Visitors will be invited to explore the world of The Hunger Games, prove they have what it takes to be “Dauntless” in The Divergent Series, or step back in time into a restaurant and lounge inspired by that frequented by Don Draper in Mad Men.

The 4,200 square metre facility will form part of the Príncipe Pío leisure complex, which already includes a theatre and a concert hall. The centre will also include a terrace with views to the Royal Palace and Madrid Cathedral.

“We are thrilled to continue our global partnership with Parques Reunidos with the opening of our second Lionsgate Entertainment City location and our first branded leisure centre in Europe,” says Jennifer Brown, Lionsgate’s senior vice-president of Global Live and Location Based Entertainment. “We look forward to introducing exciting and immersive experiences themed to our popular film and television brands to audiences in Parques Reunidos’ hometown of Madrid.”

According to CEO Fernando Eiroa, Parques Reunidos has strong expansion plans for year-round indoor entertainment centres in both Europe and the US. As well as Lionsgate, it is also working with the Discovery network and recently opened a Nickelodeon Adventure branded outlet in the Spanish city of Murcia.
