Profits for Oriental Land Company (OLC), operator of Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan, rose two per cent to $217m in the second quarter of the year, as the 15-year anniversary of the Tokyo DisneySea theme park drove up visitor traffic.

This marks the first year-on-year profit increase for OLC in the April-June quarter in three years. Overall revenues increased four per cent to around $1bn. Per-customer sales climbed thanks to an increase in admission fees in April.

In addition to bringing more people to Tokyo Disney Resort, which is also home to Tokyo Disneyland, the 15-year anniversary celebrations helped push up merchandise sales.

Looking ahead, the company hopes to further boost footfall by holding a range of special events during the high-demand summer break season and Halloween events in the autumn.
