Construction of the Red Sea Project, a luxury tourist destination within a 28,000 km. sq. area in Saudi Arabia made up of an archipelago of more than 50 unspoilt islands, desert, mountains, nature and culture, has begun.

The work is being carried out by the Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) and will continue throughout 2019.

The first phase of the project is due to be completed in 2022 and will comprise of 14 luxury and hyper-luxury hotels, which will provide 3,000 rooms in total scattered across five islands and two inland resorts.

The ambitious Red Sea site will also feature leisure and lifestyle amenities, an airport and marinas for yachts.

The Red Sea Project describes itself as an ultra-luxury tourist project that will “set new standards in sustainable development and redefine the world of luxury tourism.”

John Pagano, CEO of TRSDC, shared his enthusiasm towards construction being underway.

“This is an important milestone for The Red Sea Project and takes us another step closer to our goal of creating a truly exquisite tourism destination on the beautiful Red Sea coast,” said Pagano.

Construction for the resort is being carried out at Base Camp, on the Red Sea coast near the south end of the project. Base Camp currently houses 60 members of the team working on the project, where they live and work.

“We will be sourcing labour locally and internationally using both our own resources and those of our construction and development partners. Our objective is to set a new standard of excellence for labour management in the region,” Pagano continued.
