Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore’s major theme park and casino development, is set for a soft opening in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year on Sunday.

Genting Singapore’s much-anticipated 49ha project was unveiled in 2005, after government officials said they would lift a previous ban on gambling and award the group with two licenses.

The two casinos and south-east Asia’s first Universal Studios theme park are the main drawcards of the resort. The park will open in March, although from Sunday visitors will get a sneak preview of the complex.

"We are ready to soft-open the casino but are still fine-tuning the rides and shows in the theme park," said chief executive Tan Hee Teck.

Genting plans to launch a marine life park, a maritime museum and a spa in a later phase.
