The providers of two low-tech but highly engaging attractions have come together following Ropes Courses Inc’s (RCI) acquisition of Amaze’n Mazes.

The American companies have previously partnered on several projects and see scope for further interactive attractions targeting families. One of their most successful innovations in the past decade has been the combination of a human maze at ground level with a high ropes course constructed above to provide two attractions on a single footprint. The two distinct activities cater to a wide range of age and ability levels.

Amaze’n Mazes was launched in 1988 by Greg Gallavan in Winter Park, Colorado as an indoor family fun centre with a small maze, video arcade, burger bar and mini golf course. Since that time, more than 70 mazes have been designed and installed in 10 countries, from the USA to South Korea and Australia. Gallavan will continue as a consultant to RCI. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

“The staff at Ropes Courses Inc has known and worked with Greg for a number of years,” reveals RCI’s Jon Weston. “This acquisition allows us to tap into his expertise in maze design as well as his network of contacts and venues around the US and the world.”

Since 1989, Michigan-based Ropes Courses, Inc has been manufactured, installed and serviced more than 350 adventure products including its signature Sky Trail course. It recently reached an agreement with Clip ‘n Climb of New Zealand to manufacture the company’s climbing structures for the North and South American markets.
