The fate of the Singapore Flyer has been left unclear, after Merlin Entertainments abandoned talks to acquire the S$240M ($192m) giant wheel attraction.

Almost a year has passed since the troubled Singapore Flyer was placed under receivership. Now, according to press reports emerging from the island state, talks have broken down between Merlin and receiver Ferrier Hodgson.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) – which owns the land the attraction sits on – told Singapore daily newspaper Today that discussions are still ongoing with stakeholders. It declined to confirm if the talks were with another potential buyer.

"The STB has been closely engaging the various parties involved to ensure the best possible outcome that enhances the tourism sector," a spokesperson told Today. "As discussions are still ongoing, we are unable to share further details."
