Sea Life Blackpool has revealed it now houses 2,623 creatures and 154 species, following its annual stock take.

The stock take occurs over four weeks from December to January and involves each fish being counted three times by different members of staff, to ensure the count is accurate.

Rachel Sipes, general manager of Sea Life Blackpool, said: “Our stock take is one of the most exciting occasions of the year for staff and helps us to understand how our population is growing and to keep track of the location of our inhabitants.

“We’re really pleased with the growth over the past year and that we have welcomed 671 more fish to our tanks. We hope to continue to grow our impressive range of species and excite visitors with interesting and beautiful sea life.”

Sipes added: “Over 100 babies were born at Sea Life Blackpool in 2015, including sharks, rays and seahorses.”

Located on Blackpool’s famous promenade, Sea Life Blackpool has been welcoming guests for over 20 years.
