An elaborate Immersive Tunnel installation from Simworx will be one of the key attractions at the new Amikoo Theme Park opening later this year in Mexico.

Located on the sprawling Riviera Maya between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the resort style development will cover an area of almost 120 hectares. Its concept is based on Maya cosmogony. According to developers, the project will showcase the enormous cultural, natural, historical and recreational wealth of Mexico to the world. It will celebrate the Maya’s deep heritage and culture via a world class museum and various rides and attractions. There will also be 1,200 luxury hotel rooms, an exhibition hall, convention centre and an Amikoo Downtown area with shopping, entertainment and gastronomy.

The Amikoo Theme Park will feature 24 attractions, restaurants and shows in four themed lands. Simworx’s Piratas de Bacalar attraction will be based, as the name suggests, on the history of local pirates. Guests will enjoy an adventure in the Caribbean Sea defending the San Felipe Bacalar Fort, along with an exhibition about piracy in Mexico. The attraction will feature a new version of the UK media attractions specialist’s Immersive Tunnel. This will utilise a single, 60-seat, 3DOF motion base (as opposed to the 30-seat motion bases found in other versions of the ride) themed as a pirate galleon.

A real water basin around the galleon will help to simulate a journey on the sea while special effects such as wind and water spray will add further to the experience. Amikoo has also opted for a hybrid-type, 7m high screen. The whole system will offer a 4K audio visual solution.

“Simworx will be the main supplier for the attraction but we have brought on board Jora Vision for the theming elements,” explains sales director Edward Pawley. “Pirates de Bacalar will be a standalone attraction within the resort and will be a 50-minute experience in total, with a series of pre-shows leading up to the main ride element. There will also be a restaurant and retail outlets in the same building and we are due to have the ride installed by March 2019.”

The first phase of the Amikoo project is scheduled to open between the end of 2018 through until March 2019.
