Therme Group has partnered with the Responsible Tourism Partnership to launch the 2022 Responsible Tourism Charter.

The event took place on 6 November on the eve of COP27, the UN Climate Change Conference 2022, and the World Travel Market London 2022 – one of the biggest travel and tourism trade shows in the world.

Magna Carta Island welcomed representatives from international organizations who signed the charter, affirming their commitment to reducing their environmental impact and embracing principles of responsible tourism.

The first Responsible Tourism Declaration has launched in Cape Town 20 years ago.

The Declaration on Responsible Tourism in Destinations became the foundation document of the Responsible Tourism movement.

Since the signing, there has been significant progress from businesses and governments in taking steps to move the tourism industry forward, as well as building better communities for local people and for tourists.

Therme operates ‘large-scale wellbeing resorts around the globe, offering eco-tourism destinations to both domestic and international travelers.’

Environmental consciousness is a key factor for Therme, who use sustainable design and technology to create affordable and inclusive environments that welcome millions of visitors every year.

The partnership aligns with Therme’s vision for improving well-being in communities around the world.

Stelian Iacob, Senior VP of Therme Group, said of the new partnership: “For Therme Group, supporting the historic launch of the new Responsible Tourism Charter shows the commitment we have to people and planet.

“We care deeply about the communities we serve and by being truthful we can all have a positive impact and build a better future.”

Meanwhile, Dr Harold Goodwin, Managing Director of the Responsible Tourism Partnership, said: “The three urgent crises that we face as a species also impact on tourism.

“Climate change, biodiversity extinction, and the urgent need to ensure that the economically poor but culturally rich in so many countries in the world, benefit from tourism. By including local people, the tourism industry can enrich local communities and the visitor’s experience.”
