Tivoli, Denmark’s much loved theme park, has closed its door due to new Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the government. The theme park closed on December 9, 2020.

Tivoli had reopened in May when the nationwide lockdown was lifted. It had remained open since, adhering to strict safety measures to help keep guests and staff safe.

Since late September, the number of new coronavirus cases have been steadily increasing in Denmark. The country now faces the harshest restrictions since the first lockdown was imposed in March. With more than 2,000 Covid-19 cases daily, the government announced that outdoor amusement parks and zoos must close for the remainder of the Christmas season.

Susanne Morch Koch, CEO of Tivoli, commented on the closing of the theme park: “Against all odds, Tivoli has managed to open for summer, Halloween, and Christmas in Tivoli, always with a clear focus on giving our guests a wonderful, eventful, and safe experience in Tivoli. Tivoli has shown that even in very difficult conditions we can still function as a refuge for the Danes in the middle of busy Copenhagen.

“We are very proud of that, and we are grateful that our guests have once again shown what Tivoli means to them at the same time as they have expressed great satisfaction with their visit to the park,” Morch Kock added.

Tivoli will reopen on March 27, 2021 for Easter. The opening will mark the start of an extra-long summer season, which will see a number of new innovations at the amusement park.
