The Turkish capital city of Ankara is to be the home of the biggest theme park in Europe. It has been announced that the highly-awaited Ankapark will open its doors this spring.

Ankapark covers a vast 1.4 million-square-metre area. During the winter months, visitors can go on rides and attractions in the park’s 130,000-square-metre indoor space. Even the outdoor rides will be functioning during the winter, as they will be covered by heated tents, which reach average temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius.

The park was built by three Turkish companies and one Chinese company, which have the operating rights to Ankapark for the next 29 years.

Tests of the rides are believed to be underway, carried out by the German-based audit firm TÜV. Cem Uzan, Ankapark Enterprises’ general director, noted how Ankapark is making safety a priority.

“We open the huge rides in accompany with supervisors of the firms. There are some procedures and rules for it. Supervisors examine everything including the wheels of the rides, welding areas and junction points one by one,” said Uzan.

As well as thousands of rides and attractions, Ankapark comprises of function rooms for parties and a wealth of restaurants serving cuisine from around the world, including Chinese, Japanese and Italian food.

The amusement park is designed to attract tourists from China, the Middle East and Russia. As Uzan notes:

“We try to improve tourism activities in Ankara. Our Chinese partners will bring nearly 500,000 Chinese tourists. Our aim is to bring Russian and Middle Eastern ones. If more tourists come here in this context, Ankara will have a proper income, developing its touristic structure. Thus, we will establish another income source for Ankara.”
