Vicon, specialists in motion capture, has teamed up with Europa-Park/MackNeXT and VR Coaster, to develop a state-of-the-art location-based virtual reality (LBVR) entertainment platform.

VR Coaster has developed VR experiences for more than 60 theme parks. The new platform creates ‘infinite’ roaming environments, incorporating the full body tracking of 32 simultaneous players in large venues. The product is designed to enable theme parks to unlock the full potential of the LBVR market by supporting the most compelling of VR experiences.

The first commercial installation of Vicon and VR Coaster’s LBVR platform took place in Rust, adjacent to Europa-Park and the Rulantica waterpark. The attraction will be open to guests in the summer 2020.

Powering a new generation of VR experiences, MackNeXT and VR Coaster have created a new VR platform. The first platform is Yullbe, a new fully immersive form of VR entertainment that’s targeted to a wider whole-family audience rather than just console and PC gamers.

The new platform has been built on Origin by Vicon and enables support of full-body tracking for 32 players in large arenas. The platform is powered by Vicon’s advanced VR technology, including the latest Viper and Viper X cameras with high-performance Pulsar active marker tracking clusters.

Andy Ray, sales director of UK & ROW at Vicon, commented: “The fact that one of the world’s leading theme parks selected Vicon’s technology for this new platform is a massive endorsement of the work we have done to develop a system that can support the incredible demands of fully immersive, full-body tracking experiences for high numbers of players.

“Yullbe is a perfect showcase for the power of the platform to enable the VR experiences of the future and the revenue opportunity that LBVR represents for entertainment IP holders. We are giving developers the ultimate solution to create VR experiences at unprecedented scale with incredible immersion,” Ray added.
