Panama City Beach in the US could be the future site for a new waterpark, currently dubbed the Emerald Coast waterpark.
The proposed site, located just over half a mile from Shipwreck Island waterpark, was bought by Sterling Realty in 2005 for just under US$30.5m and was rezoned to “accommodations and retail” during the condo boom in the US.
Sterling is now requesting Panama City Beach rezone the land to “amusements,” with the planning department already approving the modification.
The site development plan submitted by Sterling includes multiple slides, a lazy river, wave pool and a standing wave for surfing. There is also the potential for a ferris wheel and roller coaster. If approved the park could open in 2010.
