Due to increased demand from operators, UK amusement equipment company World of Rides has increased production of its new £1 coin mechanisms.

The new £1 coin was introduced to the British public earlier this year, amid conflicting reports from many within the industry, who foresaw problems looming with regards to their use in multi-coin mechanisms.

Unfortunately, this situation is still ongoing, leaving many multi-coin mechanism with problems that are yet to be resolved.

However, in the case of those operators of children’s rides and games that have chosen to use the simple roll-down coin mechanisms, World of Rides said the increase in takings have been “astounding”.

“Incomes from our rides that have now been fitted with the new £1 coin mechanisms are far outperforming those with the old £1 coin mechanisms still fitted,” the company said

World of Rides customer support manager Andrew Robinson said: “Initially, we tried making a new coin mechanism that would accept both the old and the new coins.

“But very quickly became apparent during tests that a duel coin acceptor would just allow the cash boxes to become a dumping ground for all the out-of-date old £1 coins.”

Robinson added: “As a result, we have had to increase our production two-fold immediately, and we may still need to increase this even further once the school holidays are in full swing.”
