The UK’s Thorpe Park is relaunch its Vekoma indoor rollercoaster, formerly known as X:\ No Way Out, as Walking Dead – The Ride.
The unusual attraction, which debuted at the park near London in 1996, was renamed simply X in 2013. Previously it ran backwards. It features 400m (1,312ft) of track and a booster wheel-driven lift. Two-seater cars are arranged in trains of five.
It will be resurrected this Easter as a “multi-sensory” rollercoaster with a zombie storyline and special affects inspired by the hit AMC series The Walking Dead. The park, operated by Merlin Entertainments, is in fact planning a Walking Dead series of events this coming season, including a live-action maze, zombie hunt and various activities during its Fright Nights season in October.
The British park already boasts a rollercoaster themed around the Saw horror movie franchise. Although walk-through Walking Dead and Fear of the Walking Dead attractions can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood and Movie Park Germany, this is the first time a ride has been realised using the IP.
