“We’re thrilled to announce that on 7 May, the Anaheim City Council unanimously voted to approve the final components of DisneylandForward!”
The confirmation of a £1.5 billion investment vision towards Disney’s multi-decade expansion plan for Walt’s original park is now a reality.
After a unanimous vote, plans are now afoot for DisneylandForward consisting of utilising 57 acres of parking and unused land.
The plans coincide with a potential Avatar-themed area at the park as Disney CEO Bob Iger explains: “We’re thrilled about many potential new stories that our guests could experience in Walt’s original theme park, including the opportunity to embark on all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to the world of Pandora.”
At the conclusion of the council vote, Disney released a statement stating that “we extend our sincere thanks to the City of Anaheim for its support and collaboration throughout this process. DisneylandForward is a legacy project that is expected to create up to 4,584 new jobs during operations and 8,960 new construction jobs during development, along with potentially generating up to £24m in new annual revenues for the city.
“This project will have a positive impact for generations, boosting local businesses and enhancing benefits for residents as we welcome visitors from around the world to one of America’s greatest cities – a city with an unmatched vision for dreaming big.
“Over the past three years, community engagement has been at the heart of our mission, and we deeply appreciate the enthusiastic response and input from residents, local businesses, and stakeholders. Your involvement has been instrumental in shaping this project to meet our city’s needs and aspirations.
“We can’t wait to get started.”
The Disneyland Forward project heralds a new era for Disney with future expansions and current upgrades at Disneyland across the globe following the DisneylandForward blueprint.
