Derby-based design agency Katapult has created a modular interactive museum for LEGOLAND parks in the UK, Germany, Korea and China, marking 15 years of the LEGO Ninjago franchise.

Katapult, the Derby-based guest experience design agency, has completed a four-site interactive museum celebrating the 15th anniversary of the LEGO® Ninjago® franchise, delivering the project across LEGOLAND® parks in four countries. The interactive exhibition launched at LEGOLAND Windsor, LEGOLAND Deutschland, LEGOLAND Korea and LEGOLAND Shanghai, bringing the legacy of LEGO Ninjago to life through storytelling and hands-on activities.

Working in collaboration with The LEGO Group and Merlin Entertainments, Katapult delivered a full turnkey production solution, overseeing the project from concept and design development through to fabrication, installation and commissioning. The museum featured interactive components including flip panels, push-button quizzes and tactile exhibits.

Each museum unit was individually designed to suit its installation location, reflecting the distinct visual aesthetic of the Ninjago world. Sustainability and longevity were built into the brief from the outset. A key focus throughout was the development of a future-proof modular base kit — centrally designed but adaptable for local markets — which can be reskinned and reused for different activations in future.

Ben Millerman, project producer at Katapult, said: “The opportunity to, once again, collaborate with Merlin and LEGO allowed us to blend storytelling, interactivity and immersive design to celebrate this beloved LEGO franchise globally. It’s always a joy to see guests enjoying our work and being able to showcase their love of Ninjago.”

The project required close collaboration with multiple stakeholders at The LEGO Group and Merlin Entertainments, with all teams working together within a short lead time. Katapult sourced in-market suppliers to meet timeline and budget requirements, and liaised with local site teams to tailor each installation to the operational and guest needs of individual locations.

Annie Tang, senior marketing manager for China and APAC at The LEGO Group, said: “We continue to enjoy collaborating with the Katapult team to deliver new experiences in our LEGOLAND Resorts worldwide. As long-term design partners, they both understand and excel at creating experiences where only the best is good enough.”
