Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool has unveiled two brand new attractions for its annual ‘Journey to Hell’ scare nights, plus a revamped event with triple the rides.
Journey to Hell is a terrifying, experience led event, featuring live actors through themed areas of Pleasure Beach Resort, four immersive scare zones and unlimited riding after dark.
And thrillseekers, or chillseekers, are invited to challenge their worst fears this October and come face to face with the gruesome undead, sinister clowns, ghostly apparitions and more.
Two new live-action scare zones will feature: The Alice and Wonderland-themed ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ and ‘Cabinet of Curiosities.’
New live action scare zone ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ will see the park’s usually beloved Alice in Wonderland ride transformed into a nightmarish world where Alice and friends have gone insane. Grotesque figures will be lurking around every corner hoping to terrify unsuspecting guests into madness.
Also new for 2024 is ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’, the lair of a macabre collector and home to the inexplicable and the bizarre. Each gruesome creature is more disturbing than the last and guests must flee through a maze of horrors.
It has also announced that nine rides will be “engulfed in darkness” and all but the live-action scare zones will be available for unlimited riding. During last year’s event, only three rides were included and were available on a ‘one shot’ basis, meaning guests could only ride each once.
Additionally, Pleasure Beach has confirmed the north of the park will be transformed into ‘haunted ride areas’ with terrifying roaming actors and live entertainment, as well as themed cocktails and dining.
‘The Ghost Train: Vault of Shadows’ will return for its second year. The world’s first Ghost Train is notoriously one of the most haunted attractions in the world, said to be haunted by ‘Cloggy’, a former ride operator whose footsteps can still be heard. Journey to Hell will see malevolent spirits hiding in the shadows, and Pleasure Beach says there will be far more than the Ghost Train’s creepy animatronics to fear.
Hidden below Pleasure Beach Resort is a 100-year-old network of tunnels used to travel between rides. This will become home to the fourth live-action scare zone, ‘Twisted Tunnels’. Guests will discover they are not alone as they navigate the winding, Victorian-esque passageways beneath the disembodied noises of the theme park above.
CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, Amanda Thompson OBE, said: “This year Journey to Hell is bigger and more frightening than ever with two brand new scare zones. After the success of our zone inside the Ghost Train last year, we’ve turned another fan-favourite ride into a terrifying live action area and it promises to be one of our creepiest yet.
“We know our rides help us stand out from other scare events, so we’ve tripled the rides available and added ride theming for a more immersive experience. Even the rides that aren’t classed as one of our scare zones will have roaming actors and entertainment to create a truly terrifying night.
“Add that to our own eerie history here at Pleasure Beach Resort and it’s a Halloween event not to be missed.”
Journey to Hell: Freak Nights take place on selected dates from October 11 to October 31, 7pm until 10pm. It is an exclusive after-hours event held at Pleasure Beach Resort once the park closes. Entry to Journey to Hell is not included with a standard Pleasure Beach eTicket and tickets must be purchased separately.
Pleasure Beach Resort will also undergo a scary transformation by day, with Halloween-themed entertainment and activities for the whole family throughout the month of October.
Spooky Halloween guests will be roaming around the park, including Lougarock the werewolf. Guests can visit the Halloween Hub to enter fancy dress competitions, watch scary movies on the Scream Screen, and enjoy Halloween-themed food and drink.
At the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land there will be Halloween fun and games, plus the chance to say ‘trick or treat’ to Nickelodeon characters including SpongeBob SquarePants and the PAW Patrol pups.
