Sandusky park sells more than 100 sections of decommissioned track from its 1989 hypercoaster, days after a detached washer prompted a temporary ride closure for inspection.
Cedar Point began selling sections of retired track from Magnum XL-200 on 27 June 2026, with more than 100 pieces available exclusively at the Pagoda Gift Shop on the park’s Main Midway. Each piece costs $300. Park spokesperson Tony Clark confirmed the track comes from sections replaced over the years as part of routine maintenance, not from the ride’s current operating circuit.
The sale follows a brief closure of Magnum XL-200 earlier in the week, after a small metal washer detached from the coaster’s lift mechanism. Clark said the ride was closed as a precaution for a thorough inspection and reopened once the review was complete. Video of the incident, which showed the washer falling near a guest, had circulated on social media before the park issued its statement.
Magnum XL-200 opened in 1989 as the world’s first complete-circuit coaster to exceed 200 feet in height, a record recognised by Guinness World Records. The ride received the American Coaster Enthusiasts’ Roller Coaster Landmark award in 2004 in recognition of its historical significance to the industry.
Cedar Point has sold decommissioned coaster track before. The park offered 1,000 pieces from the closed Wicked Twister at $215 each in 2022, and 390 pieces from Maverick priced between $299 and $349 in 2024.
