Squid Game, the critically acclaimed TV series featuring contestants taking part in a game of survival, is to be turned into a real-life games entertainment experience.
Netflix has partnered with Sandbox VR to produce a game based on the Korean TV series.
The game experience is scheduled for late 2023 in arcades around the world. The game developer has over 30 locations globally, with 26 located in North America.
According to Sandbox VR, players will be ‘transported to iconic Squid Game locations, where they become contestants in a variety of pulse-pounding challenges inspired by the Netflix series and compete against each other to be the last one standing.’
Players will be able to immediately rewatch, share and even download a personalized mixed-reality highlight reel.
Squid Game founders further set the survival scene: ‘The stakes are high. Your life may not be on the line, but everything else will be.’
‘In this 60-minute immersive, digital adventure, grab your friends, put on a visor and prepare for Squid Game. You will participate as a contender in Squid Game and have to survive all six challenges from the show.
‘Using our 3D motion tracking visors and touch screens around the room, you will need to survive each challenge to advance in the game. Every time you lose, you lose players’ lives. Every time you win, earn money in the piggy bank. Have you got what it takes?’
The games from the series will naturally feature with Red Light, Green Light, Tug of War, Marbles, Dalgona, Glass Bridge and the finale of the Squid Game taking centre stage for fans of the worldwide smash hit series.
