After 28 years of fine service and opening in 1994, the much beloved ‘SW3’ (Secret Weapon 3) and better known as Nemesis, is to enjoy its last ride on 6th November.

That is, its last ride in its current guise.

A social media post from Alton Towers confirmed: “By order of the Phalanx, Nemesis is closing. You have until 6thNovember to ride. Please make your way to Alton Towers Resort in an orderly fashion.”

For those emotional about the news, there is good news. According to park plans, the ‘closure’ is for necessary maintenance work on the ride with Alton Towers submitting this year planning application for restoration work on the hugely popular ride.

At the time, Nemesis cost £10m to build and naturally over time, the ride has suffered wear and tear. According to plans, it is expected that large parts of the track will be replaced and enhanced fit for modern day riding.

Sources say that the ride will be open again for the 2024 season to coincide with Nemesis’ 30th anniversary. A ‘silver fox’ which continues to marvel in time and draped in history, Forbidden Valley will unleash its beast of Nemesis once more.
