Less than six months after unveiling plans to build major theme parks in cities across Russia, DreamWorks Animation has announced it will develop an indoor theme park in eastern China.

The company, which was behind hit movies such as Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, told China's state-run Xinhua news agency that the new park would be created in "a major city" in the Yangtze Delta.

Speaking to the Chinese news agency in an interview in Shanghai, Shuai Min, vice president of Oriental DreamWorks, said: "Compared with an open-air park, an indoor one is smaller, cheaper and more attractive to consumers, families particularly, who live downtown."

But the move will mark the latest push into the Chinese market for DreamWorks. The company has already unveiled plans for a 'Dream Centre' in Shanghai, featuring theatres, restaurants and retail outlets.
