A new attraction in Japan aims to capitalise on the public’s fascination for all things aviation. Flight of Dreams at Chubu Centrair International Airport comprises two zones and features as its centrepiece what was the first ever Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

While they kill time before/between flights, visitors can explore nine “experiential corners” as they have fun learning about aviation. In the free-to-enter area Seattle Plaza on floors 2 and 3, they can sample food and shopping popular in the aircraft manufacturer’s home city. On sale are around 500 exclusive Boeing original goods as well as other items that should appeal to aviation fans including objects and furniture manufactured from genuine aircraft parts.

In the Flight Park on floor 1, meanwhile, visitors can get more hands-on. Offerings here include a projection mapping show on the aircraft itself, a flight simulator, 3D dome, role-playing cabin and an interactive illuminated space that changes colour and creates sound when guests fly paper planes through it. A mobile app also challenges visitors to search for pieces of the aircraft around the Boeing 787.

Entrance to Flight Park, which operates from 10am to 5pm daily (7pm on Saturdays), is priced at ¥1,200 ($10.65) per person, or ¥800 for younger visitors. The restaurants in Seattle Plaza stay open for an hour longer, while the retail outlets are available each day until 10pm.
